President Hichilema Backs Bold ZNBC Reforms, Urges Innovation and Financial Sustainability

President Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) in its transformation into a modern, financially sustainable, and technologically advanced public broadcaster.

Following a productive engagement with the ZNBC Board led by Chairman Bishop Joseph Kazhila, President Hichilema received a comprehensive briefing outlining the historical and ongoing challenges facing the national broadcaster, alongside strategic recommendations for reform.

“We recognize that ZNBC holds significant potential to fulfill its public service mandate while creating sustainable value by prioritizing investment-oriented initiatives over consumption-driven practices,” President Hichilema said in a statement.

The President urged ZNBC to uphold prudent governance, transparency, and accountability as key pillars in its transformation journey. He emphasized the need for the Corporation to fully embrace digital innovation and emerging technologies in order to diversify revenue streams, extend its reach, and deliver greater value to Zambian citizens.

“As it transitions and ventures deeper into the digital space, we encourage ZNBC to leverage innovation to unlock new opportunities and reflect the aspirations of a dynamic and digitally empowered Zambia,” he said.

President Hichilema concluded by expressing confidence in ZNBC’s ability to maintain its status as Zambia’s premier broadcaster and reiterated his government’s readiness to support its strategic evolution.
