Zambia, Korea Forge Tourism Ties Through Culture and Media

The Republic of Korea has expressed interest in deepening cooperation with Zambia in the tourism sector, following a courtesy call by Korean Ambassador His Excellency Jae Kyung Park on Tourism Minister Rodney Sikumba.

Held at the Ministry of Tourism headquarters in Lusaka, the meeting focused on exploring strategic areas of collaboration including capacity building, tourism infrastructure investment, cultural exchange programmes, and sustainable tourism development.

Ambassador Park underscored Korea’s readiness to support Zambia’s tourism agenda, with particular emphasis on cultural and media-driven promotion.

A standout proposal was the use of Korea’s globally popular entertainment industry — especially K-dramas and films — as a tool to showcase Zambia’s landscapes, wildlife, and cultural heritage to an East Asian and global audience.

Minister Sikumba welcomed the proposal, describing it as a timely and innovative approach to boost Zambia’s international tourism profile.

He emphasized that Zambia’s rich blend of natural wonders, diverse wildlife, and cultural authenticity positions it well for experiential tourism and global partnerships.

Both parties committed to enhancing people-to-people exchanges, exploring joint marketing campaigns, and leveraging digital media and creative platforms to promote Zambia as a tourism destination.
