Energy Minister Charges New ERB Board to Lead with Prudence and Resolve

Zambia’s Minister of Energy has urged the newly appointed Energy Regulation Board (ERB) to bring firm, professional, and prudent leadership to the country’s energy sector, calling it a critical pillar for national economic stability and development.

Speaking at the Board’s induction meeting at Radisson Blu Hotel in Lusaka, the Minister reminded members that the decisions they make impact every Zambian household and business.

“The energy sector affects every citizen. You must act with prudence and ensure your decisions serve the people,” he emphasized.

He challenged the Board, chaired by Mr. James Banda, a respected lawyer and businessman, to swiftly address long-standing challenges such as load-shedding, which continues to strain productivity and livelihoods across the country.

The Minister cited recent policy successes like open access, which contributed to a reduction in fuel prices, urging the Board to translate such gains into broader public benefit.

While reaffirming Government’s full backing, the Minister encouraged the ERB to maintain regulatory independence, implement policy fairly, and uphold transparency.

He emphasized the need for enhanced teamwork between the Board and ERB management, strong oversight, and effective systems of accountability.

With a blend of seasoned professionals and technical experts, the newly inducted Board is expected to spearhead reforms and drive sustainable growth in Zambia’s evolving energy landscape.
