Zambia, U.S. Reaffirm Strong Bilateral Ties Amid Visa Concerns
Zambia and the United States have reaffirmed their long-standing partnership during a high-level engagement between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, MP, and U.S. Ambassador to Zambia, His Excellency Michael C. Gonzales.
The meeting, held in Lusaka, provided an opportunity for both nations to reinforce mutual respect, dialogue, and strategic cooperation. A key issue discussed was the U.S. government’s consideration of Zambia for inclusion on a list of 36 countries potentially subject to visa restrictions.
Minister Haimbe emphasized Zambia’s unwavering commitment to working collaboratively with the United States to address shared interests transparently and constructively.
“Zambia values its relationship with the United States and remains committed to engagement based on mutual trust and openness,” said Hon. Haimbe.
Ambassador Gonzales described the meeting as a timely and positive step forward. He praised Zambia’s regional role and reaffirmed Washington’s appreciation for the enduring partnership with Lusaka, highlighting the country’s potential and contributions.
Both parties agreed on the importance of maintaining open lines of communication and deepening cooperation across political, economic, and diplomatic sectors.
