ZPPA Enhances e-GP System to Boost Efficiency and Transparency
The Zambia Public Procurement Authority (ZPPA) has embarked on an ambitious drive to enhance its Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) platform, in a bid to improve reliability, increase system availability, and modernize the country’s public procurement processes.
According to a statement issued by Iňutu Mushambatwa, Head of Public Relations at ZPPA, several infrastructure upgrades have been rolled out, including the replacement of outdated ICT equipment to reduce downtime and improve overall system performance.
Key to this transformation is the installation of two failover generator sets with automated changeover switches, as well as the procurement of high-end Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) packs to ensure continuous system operation during power outages.
ZPPA also announced plans to replace the e-GP system’s original equipment—installed in 2016—with advanced technology. This upcoming version will feature a more user-friendly interface, new functionalities aligned with the amended Public Procurement Act, and improved scalability and responsiveness.
Since the system’s launch in 2016, ZPPA has provided ongoing training to both public and private sector stakeholders. These capacity-building efforts cover user registration, tender creation, bid submission, contract management, and overall system navigation, in line with the Authority’s 2022–2026 Strategic Plan.
To further improve efficiency, transparency, and compliance, ZPPA—supported by the European Union—is integrating the e-GP system with several national platforms. These include the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS), Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA), Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), and the Government Service Bus.
This integration is expected to enhance financial controls, automate supplier validation, and facilitate tax compliance while reducing manual processes and enabling data-driven procurement planning.
ZPPA is also working closely with the Smart Zambia Institute to align the e-GP System with the national e-Government Strategy. This collaboration ensures the procurement system supports Zambia’s broader digital governance objectives.
