Gov’t to Launch Climate-Smart Farmer Field School in Lifalale

The Government of Zambia, through the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment, has announced plans to establish a Farmer Field School in Lifalale village, Zimba District, aimed at strengthening climate-smart agriculture among local farmers.

With a funding allocation of K900,000 for the 2025 financial year, the project will provide hands-on training in agriculture, livestock, and horticulture. The school is designed to equip farmers with practical knowledge to adapt to climate change impacts and build resilience within their communities.

The initiative was officially unveiled during a courtesy visit to Chief Sipatunyana by government officials from the Zimba Town Council and District Administration. The delegation sought and received the traditional leader’s endorsement and support for the project.

Chief Sipatunyana warmly welcomed the project, urging the Lifalale community to take ownership and actively participate. “This initiative will help our farmers understand the value of various crops beyond just maize and encourage them to diversify. It’s time we moved away from traditional practices and embraced farming methods that can withstand the effects of climate change,” he said.

The chief further emphasized the need for a shift in mindset towards climate-resilient farming systems and commended the government’s commitment to empowering rural farmers through education and innovation.

The delegation included District Forestry Officer Mr. Mainza Chavwanga, Director of Planning Mrs. Annet Hamachili, Director of Agriculture Services Mr. Duncan Nyirongo, and Director of Community Services Ms. Brighet Banda.

The Lifalale Farmer Field School forms part of a broader government strategy to promote sustainable livelihoods, enhance climate change resilience, and encourage environmental conservation in rural Zambia.
