Livingstone Hosts Successful Childline Pre-Conference Ahead of Global Child Protection Summit
The Childline Pre-Conference, part of Zambia’s preparations for the upcoming 11th International Consultation on Child Helplines (IC 2025), was successfully held in Livingstone from 21st to 22nd June 2025.
Livingstone District Commissioner, Ms. Cotridah Michimba, reaffirmed the district’s commitment to promoting and protecting the rights and welfare of all children.
She emphasized the urgent need to safeguard children from all forms of violence, abuse, and neglect, while encouraging stakeholders to listen to children’s voices and take meaningful action based on their concerns.
“This is our chance to ensure that children are not just heard, but placed at the centre of action for their safety and development,” said Ms. Michimba.
The conference was attended by children from various schools and institutions, as well as government officials and development partners, including the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Childline Zambia, ZICTA, and the Joining Forces Alliance.
Assistant Director for Child Development, Mr. Gerald Tembo, addressed the children on key provisions of the Children’s Code Act No. 12 of 2022, urging them to know and claim their rights, report abuse via Childline 116, and help protect their peers. He also announced that the child-friendly version of the Act is in its final stages.
