The Zambia Cyber Security Initiative Foundation is currently hosting a pivotal two-day Cybertech Conference and Expo at the Urban Hotel in Lusaka, concluding tomorrow, 20 June.

The event unites global leaders and local pioneers to drive Africa’s digital transformation through cutting-edge solutions in Artificial Intelligence (AI), cyber defense, and cybersecurity innovation.

Under the theme “AI-Driven Future and Smart Technologies: Securing Zambia’s Digital Evolution for a Safer, Empowered Tomorrow,” the conference aims to explore innovative AI-powered solutions for threat detection and secure transactions.

It provides a platform for tech entrepreneurs to showcase breakthrough technologies, engage with experts on emerging trends, and navigate regulatory frameworks to strengthen Zambia’s cybersecurity posture.

Standard Chartered Bank Zambia CEO, Mr. Sonny Zulu, highlighted the increasing cybersecurity risks facing the banking sector, emphasizing threats such as phishing, ransomware, trojans, and spoofing attacks that jeopardize financial stability.

He called for enhanced security upgrades and monitoring to safeguard the industry.

Honorable Felix Mutati, Minister of Technology and Science and guest of honor, affirmed the government’s ambition to position Zambia at the forefront of secure and inclusive digital transformation in Africa.

He stressed the importance of leveraging AI for economic growth while ensuring cybersecurity is prioritized to protect innovations. Citing reports from Interpol and the World Economic Forum, Minister Mutati emphasized the rising frequency of cyber-attacks and the immense value of the global cyber economy.

Zambia recently enacted the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Law to protect users, infrastructure, and promote innovation without infringing on privacy, emphasizing zero surveillance. The law aims to safeguard digital assets, regulate online activities, and foster international cooperation.

The conference combines dynamic panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and keynote speeches to confront the challenges of cybersecurity and AI, positioning Zambia as a hub of resilience, innovation, and technology leadership in Africa.
