EU Reaffirms Support to Zambia’s Anti-Corruption Commission

The European Union (EU) has pledged continued support to Zambia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in its fight against corruption and financial crimes.

The commitment was reaffirmed by the EU Ambassador to Zambia and COMESA, Her Excellency Mrs. Karolina Stasiak, during a courtesy visit to ACC Director General Mrs. Daphne Pauline Soko Chabu at the Commission’s headquarters in Lusaka.

Ambassador Stasiak commended the longstanding partnership between the EU and the ACC, particularly highlighting the impact of the EU Twinning Project, which over the past four years has provided technical support to bolster the Commission’s institutional capacity.

“We are proud to have supported the ACC through the Twinning Project and are pleased with the results achieved. Our commitment remains strong, and we will continue to support the fight against financial crimes through other initiatives like the ENACT Project,” said Mrs. Stasiak.

She also praised the ACC for implementing the Online Whistleblower Protection System, noting that it has greatly improved the reporting of corruption cases and enhanced transparency in public institutions.

In response, Mrs. Chabu expressed gratitude for the EU’s consistent and strategic support, acknowledging the vital role it has played in strengthening the Commission’s ability to tackle corruption.

“The EU’s support, especially through the Twinning Project, has been instrumental in enhancing our institutional capacity and promoting accountability within government structures,” she said.

Mrs. Chabu, however, highlighted ongoing operational challenges, including low staffing levels and limited district presence, and appealed for continued support from the EU and other cooperating partners to help address these issues.
