New Health Alliances Promise Brighter Future for Zambia’s Children
A dual Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was held on June 11, 2025, at the Taj Pamodzi Hotel, symbolizing a powerful step forward in child health and development efforts across Zambia.
The Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ) and Children International Zambia (CI-Z) formalized a collaborative agreement, while CI-Z also entered into a separate MoU with the Zambia Flying Doctor Service (ZFDS).
Representing CHAZ CEO Mrs. Karen Sichali-Sichinga, Mr. Michael Kachumi, Director – Grants, Compliance, Risk Management and Procurement, underscored the importance of the new alliance.
“This Memorandum of Agreement is not just a document; it is a beacon of hope and a promise kept to the most vulnerable among us – our children,” he said.
He highlighted that the partnership would boost healthcare access in remote and underserved areas, building on CHAZ’s extensive national network.
Speaking at the event, CI-Z Agency Director Madam Doras Chirwa outlined the vision behind the MoUs. “Our goal is to leverage existing capacities to ensure every child and youth receives timely, quality health services,” she said.
With a reach of over 500,000 households through its health, education, and empowerment programs, CI-Z aims to further strengthen healthcare access, especially in hard-to-reach areas.
The CHAZ-CI-Z partnership is centered on a “Product Donations Program,” which will see CI-Z supply vital medicines, dental and surgical supplies, and medical equipment to CHAZ-supported health facilities nationwide. These contributions will address pressing shortages and improve service quality.
CHAZ will ensure effective service delivery across primary care, nutrition, reproductive health, and youth-friendly services, with proper referral systems in place.
Additionally, CI-Z will hand over assorted medical supplies from International Health Partners (IHP) to the Zambia Flying Doctor Service, expanding health access for communities far from urban centers.
Both CHAZ and CI-Z reaffirmed their commitment to child protection, transparency, and continuous monitoring and evaluation over the MoA’s five-year span.
“We are confident that our collaborative efforts with CHAZ and ZFDS will drive meaningful change and deliver real impact for children,” Madam Chirwa stated.
