African Union Mourns 204 Lives Lost in Air India Flight 171 Disaster

The African Union Commission has extended its heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of India, as well as all other nations impacted, following the devastating crash of Air India Flight 171, which claimed at least 204 lives yesterday.

In a solemn statement issued from the AU headquarters, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, conveyed “profound sorrow and deepest sympathies” to the bereaved families and those affected by the catastrophic incident.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families. This tragedy has shaken us all, and we stand in full solidarity with India and every nation impacted by this loss,” the Chairperson stated.

Flight 171 was reportedly carrying passengers from multiple nationalities when it went down under yet-unknown circumstances. Investigations into the cause are ongoing.

The African Union acknowledged the significant loss of life, including many Indian nationals and foreign citizens, reaffirming its commitment to global solidarity in moments of great sorrow.

“The African Union remains steadfast in nurturing the strong bonds of friendship and support between the African continent and the Republic of India,” the statement concluded.

The Commission has called for continued international cooperation in the investigation and support efforts for families of the victims.
