Zambia Seeks Top Role at UN Tourism Summit in Abuja
Zambia’s Minister of Tourism, Honourable Rodney Sikumba MP, is representing the country at the 68th Session of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa (CAF), underway in Abuja, Nigeria, from 11–13 June 2025.
The high-level conference, themed “Boosting Social Impact and Education in Tourism through Innovation, AI and the Creative Industries,” brings together tourism leaders and stakeholders from across the continent to explore how cutting-edge technologies and creative sectors can enhance tourism’s role in sustainable development and youth empowerment.
Zambia is actively participating in this year’s key agenda, which includes strategic policy discussions and elections to statutory bodies of the UN Tourism General Assembly.
The Ministry of Tourism is bidding for the prestigious Chairmanship of CAF for the 2025–2027 term, as well as the renewal of its seat on the Executive Council (2025–2029).
CAF serves as a vital platform for African UN Tourism Member States to align on developmental goals and deepen cooperation in transforming tourism into a catalyst for economic growth and social progress.
This year’s session builds on the momentum of the 67th CAF meeting, which Zambia proudly hosted in Livingstone in 2024.
The conference is also spotlighting innovation, artificial intelligence, and the creative economy as transformative tools to enhance tourism’s educational and social benefits—particularly for young people.
