Zambia Launches AI Health Pilot with Finland

Zambia has launched a groundbreaking pilot program that brings Artificial Intelligence and remote health diagnostics to healthcare delivery across the country.

Spearheaded by the Ministry of Technology and Science and the Ministry of Health, in partnership with Finnish company 73Health Global and local tech firm Pentatech Ltd, the initiative aims to test innovative medical technologies in 20 health posts across 10 provinces.

Supported by the Government of Finland and Paratus Zambia, the official distributor of Starlink, the pilot will integrate remote diagnostic tools and AI-powered pharmacological analysis to enhance healthcare access, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

73Health Global’s Board Chairman, Mr. Yaakko Seppälä, explained that their Finnish-designed remote health diagnostic system—already in use in Finland, China, and Canada—enables virtual consultations and improves affordability.

“AI ensures high-quality, consistent care, giving even low-income and vulnerable populations a chance to access timely treatment,” Seppälä said.

Zambia’s own contribution comes in the form of Larry RX AI, developed by Pentatech Ltd. This tool analyzes drug interactions and treatment compliance, making medication administration safer for patients.

Speaking at the press briefing, Finnish Ambassador to Zambia, Her Excellency Saana Halinen, highlighted Finland’s commitment to innovation and its strong ties with Zambia.

“This partnership demonstrates how digital infrastructure, education, and research can come together to support inclusive healthcare,” she said.

Hon. Felix C. Mutati, Minister of Technology and Science, underscored the transformative potential of technology in healthcare.

“Access to quality healthcare is a right, not a privilege. Through technology, one doctor can serve multiple areas, bridging distances and delivering precise treatment,” he said.

He also took a moment to honor the memory of Zambia’s late President Edgar C. Lungu, encouraging unity and reflection among citizens in a spirit of Ubuntu.
