BYD Zambia Unveils Nation’s First Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle

BYD Zambia has officially introduced the BYD Shark 6, marking the debut of the country’s first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). The launch event in Lusaka, themed “Driving Innovation, Powering the Future,” emphasizes a significant step towards sustainable transportation in Zambia.

Namwinga Namusamba, BYD Zambia’s Country Manager, highlighted the Shark 6 as a fusion of traditional engine strength and electric efficiency, setting a new benchmark for eco-friendly mobility in the nation. 

She emphasized the vehicle’s role in reducing carbon emissions while enhancing driving performance.

Since its market entry on September 5, 2024, BYD Zambia, represented by Pilatus Electric Mobility Zambia Limited, has invested over $3 million to establish a robust foundation for electric vehicle innovation. 

The Shark 6, alongside models like the Dolphin, Atto 3, and Seal, offers Zambian drivers advanced alternatives to conventional fuel-powered vehicles.

The Shark 6 boasts a battery range of up to 100 kilometers on a single charge and a combined range of 840 kilometers, delivering a seamless blend of power and efficiency. Renowned automotive enthusiasts have hailed the Shark 6 as a game-changer, with Alexandra Pierce, founder of Drive Electric Dreams, describing it as “an exhilarating leap forward.”

As Zambia embraces sustainable transportation, BYD Zambia stands at the forefront, redefining mobility and paving the way for a cleaner future. Ms. Namusamba urges stakeholders to continue innovating and powering the road ahead.
