FQM Kansanshi Showcases Sustainable Farming Success at 2025 Field Day

First Quantum Minerals (FQM) Kansanshi Mine Plc hosted its 2025 Conservation Farming Field Day at Gladson Kyupa Farm in Mapopo, Chief Kapijimpanga’s Chiefdom, highlighting a decade of progress in sustainable agriculture within the region.

The event brought together farmers, Ministry of Agriculture officials, and other stakeholders for a hands-on exchange of ideas on conservation farming—an approach that promotes minimal soil disturbance, crop rotation, and permanent soil cover to improve yields and resilience.

Speaking on behalf of Chief Kapijimpanga, Robert Kalelemba thanked FQM Kansanshi for its continued support and investment in community livelihoods. “We are grateful to Kansanshi for equipping our farmers with practical knowledge. These efforts are truly transforming lives.”

A standout moment of the day was the recognition of a local farmer who successfully cultivated over 5.5 hectares using conservation techniques—an achievement that underscores the programme’s growing impact.

Maxmillan Katanga, Agricultural Specialist for the FQM Kansanshi Foundation, noted: “Since the programme began in 2010 and expanded to Mapopo in 2014, we’ve supported 198 farmers. The goal is not just food security but income growth and community well-being.”

The Conservation Farming Field Day is an annual event promoting knowledge sharing and community learning. FQM continues to champion initiatives that empower farmers and promote environmentally responsible practices.
