Expert Calls for Policy-Driven Action to Improve Health Outcomes in Zambia
Renowned economic analyst Mr. Kelvin Chisanga has urged the Zambian government to adopt a policy-centered approach in reforming the country’s healthcare system, emphasizing the urgent need for sustainable and integrated strategies to improve health outcomes, particularly in primary and preventive care.
Speaking on Zambia’s pressing health challenges, Mr. Chisanga stressed the importance of investing in primary healthcare, describing it as the “backbone of any effective public health framework.”
He pointed out that despite limited budgetary support and financial constraints, there is still room to re-examine and reinforce the country’s health sector funding mechanisms.
“It is critical to develop industry-specific modalities that focus on building capacity and strengthening primary care,” he said, adding that vulnerable populations—especially women and children—must remain at the center of national health strategies.
Mr. Chisanga called for a comprehensive and evidence-informed approach to healthcare management, noting that Zambia can leverage existing competencies to attract support from key stakeholders.
“By demonstrating efficiency and commitment, we can build trust and attract the necessary investments in healthcare,” he added.
Highlighting broader regional implications, Mr. Chisanga stated that while the African health sector continues to grapple with systemic challenges, Zambia has an opportunity to lead by example.
“Innovative, results-driven policy models that confront preventable illness and mortality are overdue,” he emphasized.
He concluded with a call for urgent action, stressing that Zambia’s future depends on its ability to champion inclusive and proactive health policies aimed at delivering equitable and lasting outcomes.
