Zambian Diaspora Eyes Kazungula for Investment Opportunities

Zambians in the diaspora, particularly those based in Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa, are setting their sights on Kazungula District as a strategic investment destination.

In a high-level virtual meeting held yesterday, Namibian-based Zambians led discussions exploring investment opportunities in real estate, tourism, and public-private partnerships in the district.

The Zoom meeting, organized by the Namibian chapter of the Zambian diaspora, featured officials from Kazungula Town Council, including Council Secretary Mr. Lubinda Mwala and members of the District Planning Department.

The session served as a follow-up to ongoing consultations with the Ministry of Tourism, highlighting Kazungula’s growing potential as a regional trade and tourism hub.

Speaking during the meeting, one Windhoek-based participant emphasized the diaspora’s collaborative approach: “We are not just looking to invest, but to work with those already on the ground. Kazungula has immense potential, and we want to be part of its transformation.”

Mr. Mwala welcomed the diaspora’s enthusiasm, noting that local authorities are working closely with national institutions to provide a conducive investment environment.

He reiterated Kazungula’s commitment to aligning district development plans with national goals in tourism, housing, and commerce.

“This interest from our brothers and sisters abroad is timely,” Mr. Mwala said. “With infrastructure like the Kazungula Bridge and the One-Stop Border Post, the district is positioned to become a major player in cross-border trade and regional development.”

The engagement signals a growing recognition of Kazungula’s economic potential and reflects a broader trend of diaspora involvement in Zambia’s development.

The meeting concluded with calls for structured investment frameworks that ensure shared value for both local communities and investors.

This was contained in a statement issued by Lwando Kalonga, Public Relations Officer at Kazungula Town Council under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Zambia.
