Zambia’s Agro Exports Drop by 34%, Other Exports Also Fall – ZamStats
Zambia’s agricultural export earnings suffered a sharp 34 percent decline, falling from K2.0 billion in March 2025 to K1.3 billion in April, according to the Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats).
Agricultural products accounted for 19.1 percent of Non-Traditional Exports (NTEs) in April 2025, compared to 23.6 percent recorded in March 2025.
According to Ms. Daka, the major agricultural export commodities were tobacco, partly or wholly stemmed or stripped, which accounted for 10.9 percent; soya-bean oil, accounting for 10.2 percent; and buttermilk, curdled milk, and cream, accounting for 5.2 percent.
Ms. Daka said non-agricultural products accounted for a share of 80.9 percent of NTEs in April 2025, compared to 76.4 percent in March 2025.
She said export earnings from non-agricultural products decreased by 13.6 percent, from K6.6 billion in March 2025 to K5.7 billion in April 2025.
She named the major export commodity as other zinc concentrates, accounting for 14.5 percent.
Traditional export earnings dropped by 0.8 percent, from K19.8 billion in March 2025 to K19.7 billion in April 2025.
In terms of share in total exports, traditional exports accounted for 73.7 percent in April 2025.
Non-Traditional Export (NTE) earnings decreased by 19.2 percent, from K8.7 billion in March 2025 to K7.0 billion in April 2025.
In terms of share in total exports, NTEs accounted for 26.3 percent in April 2025.
