Ghanaian Nurse Naomi Ohene Oti Wins Global Nursing Award Worth $250,000 in Dubai
Ghanaian Oncology Nurse Specialist, Naomi Oyoe Ohene Oti, has been awarded the prestigious Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award 2025, receiving a prize of USD 250,000 at a grand ceremony in Dubai. Selected from over 100,000 applicants across 199 countries, Naomi’s victory highlights the vital contributions of African nurses on the global stage.
The award was presented by His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mabarak Al Nahyan, UAE Cabinet Member and Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, in the presence of dignitaries including Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare, Alisha Moopen, Group CEO, and other high-ranking officials.
Naomi, who heads nursing at the National Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, has pioneered cancer care in Ghana.
She has led training programs in collaboration with global institutions, developed Ghana’s postgraduate oncology nursing curriculum, and mentored over 60 oncology nurse specialists and 10 breast care nurses.
In her emotional acceptance speech, Naomi said, “This award is not mine alone. It belongs to every nurse in Ghana, Africa, and across the world who leads with resilience and compassion. Nursing is a force for social justice, equity, and hope.”
A special message from Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, praised Aster DM Healthcare for uplifting the nursing profession globally.
Other finalists hailed from countries including Switzerland, UAE, Kenya, India, Papua New Guinea, and the USA. The rigorous selection process was overseen by Ernst & Young LLP and included evaluations by both a Screening Jury and Grand Jury.
The Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award, launched in 2021, celebrates leadership, innovation, research, and community service in nursing. The 2025 edition saw a 28% increase in applications compared to 2024.
