Zambia Champions Public-Private Partnerships at Africa’s Top Infrastructure Symposium
Zambia’s Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Gift Sialubalo, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to leveraging public-private partnerships (PPPs) as a cornerstone of its infrastructure development agenda.
Speaking during a high-level ministerial panel at the ongoing Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium of South Africa (SIDSSA) 2025 in Cape Town, Minister Sialubalo emphasized that infrastructure investment is central to Zambia’s economic transformation.
“The Zambian Government recognises infrastructure development as a key driver for economic growth, job creation, and cross-border trade,” he said. “We are prioritizing collaborations that will advance both infrastructure and local governance, and PPPs are playing a critical role in this strategy.”
The Minister highlighted Zambia’s progress in implementing PPP-financed projects that reduce transport costs and stimulate regional connectivity. He credited private sector involvement for enabling the Government to deliver transformative projects while maintaining fiscal discipline.
“PPPs allow us to tap into private sector expertise and capital, ensuring timely and efficient project delivery,” said Mr. Sialubalo. “Through this model, we are building infrastructure that links Zambia to regional markets and supports sustainable development.”
He encouraged fellow African nations to utilize platforms like SIDSSA to foster regional cooperation. “This symposium offers an invaluable opportunity to converge, share ideas, and accelerate projects that benefit not just individual countries but the continent as a whole,” he added.
