Proflight Zambia’s Female Staff Earn Prestigious Global Dispatcher Certification

Two ambitious women from Proflight Zambia’s operations team have made history, earning global recognition after completing the prestigious FAA Aircraft Dispatcher Certification Course at Jeppesen Academy, a Boeing Company facility in Denver, Colorado.

Senior Flight Operations Officer Sylvia Chanda and Crew Scheduling Officer Piyanna Chani undertook the intensive seven-week programme independently, demonstrating exceptional initiative and drive.

While Proflight Zambia supported their travel arrangements, the pair self-funded and self-enrolled in the rigorous course, covering aerodynamics, aircraft systems, weather theory, flight planning, navigation, and more.

“This is more than a milestone—it’s a mission fulfilled through self-determination and passion for excellence,” said Captain Josias Walubita, Director of Flight Operations. “Sylvia and Piyanna have raised the bar for aviation professionals in Zambia and inspired others through their bold pursuit of excellence.”

Now back in Lusaka, both women have resumed their roles at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, where they’re already contributing their new skills to bolster flight safety and efficiency. Sylvia, with 13 years at Proflight, called the experience transformative.

“Flight operations is the heart of the airline,” she said, noting how her qualifications align with international safety standards, including the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA).

Piyanna highlighted the value of the international exposure: “The training made me more aligned with global industry standards. Understanding aircraft systems and aerodynamics has deepened our interactions with pilots and enhanced operational efficiency.”

Their achievement not only marks personal growth but also symbolizes progress for women in aviation in Zambia, reinforcing Proflight Zambia’s commitment to gender inclusivity, professional development, and safety.

“With passion and dedication, the sky is not the limit—it’s only the beginning,” said Captain Walubita, reflecting the airline’s ethos and vision for the future of Zambian aviation.
