WCFCB and ZUFIAW Sign Collective Agreement to Enhance Employee Welfare

The Workers’ Compensation Fund Control Board (WCFCB) and the Zambia Union of Financial Institutions and Allied Workers (ZUFIAW) have successfully signed a new collective agreement aimed at improving employee welfare.

Under the agreement, unionised staff at WCFCB will benefit from a 10% salary increment and a 5% increase in housing allowance. This development underscores the shared commitment of both parties to fair and equitable compensation for workers.

The signing ceremony was held in a spirit of unity, professionalism, and mutual respect. In attendance were ZUFIAW President Charles Mukuka, General Secretary and CEO Kasapo Sundrea Kabende, and Chairperson of the Bargaining Unit Patrick Kasonde.

Mr. Mukuka expressed deep appreciation for the collaborative leadership that guided the negotiations, acknowledging the Secretariat for their dedication and the WCFCB team for their transparency and flexibility.

“Your willingness to engage honestly and collaboratively was refreshing. This was not just a negotiation—it was a partnership in action. We were able to conclude this process efficiently because of your flexibility and commitment to unity,” he said.

ZUFIAW General Secretary and CEO, Mr. Kasapo Sundrea Kabende, emphasized the importance of employee recognition and home-grown solutions in shaping the future of work.

“As we commemorate this milestone, we are reminded of this year’s Labour Day theme: ‘Shaping Zambia’s Future of Work through Home-Grown Solutions for Inclusive Economic Growth.’ It’s a timely call for institutions like Workcom to innovate locally and offer effective occupational cover for workers,” he stated.

He added that acknowledging and rewarding employees builds a motivated and productive workforce, and praised the timely conclusion of negotiations as a positive step toward enhancing productivity at the Board.

WCFCB Management representative, Michelo Silungwe, also praised the negotiation environment, noting that it was defined by mutual respect and constructive dialogue.
