Minister Musokotwane Celebrates Historic Payment of FISP Arrears and Outlines Economic Growth Plans
Zambia’s Finance and National Planning Minister, Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, has announced that for the first time in decades, all arrears related to the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) were fully liquidated by April 2025.
“This is a historic milestone. All FISP-related arrears were cleared as early as April, a feat that has never happened before,” Dr. Musokotwane remarked. “We will continue on this path to ensure efficient management of public resources.”
Reflecting on the budget releases for April 2025, Dr. Musokotwane shared that the government is making significant strides toward eliminating inefficiencies in public sector entities. These efforts are aimed at concentrating more resources on the country’s economic investment, youth job creation, and sustainable growth—key elements that are expected to reduce poverty and drive wealth creation in Zambia.
A total of K23.5 billion was released by the Ministry of Finance and National Planning to finance public service delivery, with a breakdown of expenditures as follows: K8.5 billion for transfers, subsidies, and social benefits; K3.5 billion allocated for various developmental programs and general operations; K1.2 billion for capital expenditure; K4.6 billion for the public service wage bill; and K5.7 billion for servicing domestic and external debt, as well as arrears.
The Finance Minister’s comments reflect the government’s ongoing commitment to improving the efficiency of its economic policies, ensuring resources are maximized for the benefit of the nation’s citizens.
With a strong focus on growth and job creation, Dr. Musokotwane assured that Zambia is on the right track toward a more prosperous future.
