Huawei ICT Congress 2025: Zambia Ramps Up Drive to Accelerate Digital Intelligence

Huawei today hosted its 2025 ICT Congress at Hotel Intercontinental Lusaka under the theme “Accelerating All Intelligence in Zambia”, drawing key figures from government and global tech leadership to outline a shared vision for Zambia’s digital future.

Officiated by the Minister of Technology and Science, Hon. Felix C. Mutati, the high-level conference was also attended by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Eng. Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu, Chinese Ambassador to Zambia His Excellency Han Jing, Vice President of Huawei Sub-Saharan Africa Region Mr. Li Chen, and President of Huawei Southern Multi-Country Mr. Robin Yu.

The congress focused on fast-tracking Zambia’s digital transformation through cutting-edge ICT infrastructure, Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, and cloud computing. Huawei, a global ICT leader, reaffirmed its commitment to enabling smart governance, education, healthcare, and urban management systems through innovative technologies.

Minister Mutati hailed Huawei’s role in Zambia’s digital journey, saying, “It is pleasing to witness Huawei proactively being at the center of harnessing technological tools that contribute to the development of people, our systems, and innovations.”

He emphasized the nation’s five digital pillars: Digital Infrastructure, Platforms, Services and Security, Literacy and Skills, and Innovation and Entrepreneurship — highlighting them as tangible pathways to economic growth and inclusive development.

Mutati cited the 2024 launch of Zambia’s first Smart Village in Muchila, Namwala District, as a breakthrough in digital inclusion. Powered by a solar mini-grid and connected via Huawei’s Rural-Star tower, the village now enjoys improved education, healthcare, and mobile financial services.

“Muchila is no longer left behind; it is now on par with Lusaka in terms of access to smart education,” he said.

Looking ahead, the minister revealed that the government is rolling out Smart Education in all 10 provinces in 2025, with AI at the heart of this transformation. “Digital transformation is not just about technology. It’s about people, progress, and potential — empowering communities and creating a future where no Zambian is left behind.”

The congress also echoed the spirit of the 2023 Memorandum of Understanding signed between Zambia and Huawei during President Hakainde Hichilema’s state visit to China. The MoU focuses on deepening digital partnerships and accelerating the adoption of intelligent solutions across all sectors.

Huawei reaffirmed its support to Zambia’s Vision 2030 by pledging to continue working closely with government and stakeholders to build a “Cognitive Society” that thrives on innovation, digital equity, and inclusive growth.
