Kenya and China Strengthen Strategic Partnership with 20 New Trade Deals
Kenya and China have taken a major step forward in their long-standing partnership by signing 20 new trade agreements and cooperation deals aimed at driving development across key sectors of Kenya’s economy.
The agreements were signed at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing during a high-level meeting between President William Samoei Ruto of Kenya and President Xi Jinping of China.
President Ruto described the Kenya-China partnership as strong, people-focused, and results-driven. “Our Chinese friends have committed significant investment in Kenya’s roads, schools, hospitals, agriculture, energy, ICT, and more. These projects will help us grow our economy, create jobs for young people, and unlock the full potential of our country,” he said.
The agreements form part of ongoing cooperation under China’s Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to boost global infrastructure and trade. Kenya sees the partnership as key to modernising the country and improving lives.
On international relations, the two leaders agreed to continue supporting closer cooperation among developing nations and called for reforms at the United Nations—especially the Security Council—to better reflect today’s global realities.
President Ruto said the new commitments from China reflect genuine support for Kenya’s progress and a shared vision for long-term prosperity.
