Huawei South Africa Showcases F5G-A Fibre Innovation at OptiX Club 2025
Huawei South Africa reaffirmed its commitment to driving Africa’s digital transformation through cutting-edge fibre technology at its OptiX Club 2025, held on 10 April at its Johannesburg headquarters.
The event gathered over 150 industry professionals, innovators, and policymakers under the theme “Accelerate F5G-A, Boost Intelligence.”
The annual flagship event spotlighted the pivotal role of Fifth-Generation Fixed Network Advanced (F5G-A) fibre technologies in enabling next-generation AI-driven digital infrastructure.
Opening the event, York Ning, Director of Enterprise Marketing & Solution at Huawei South Africa, declared: “No fibre, no AI,” emphasizing the foundational link between fibre connectivity and future-ready intelligent systems.
Andile Godfrey Tsibiyane, Optical Network Solutions Architect, introduced Huawei’s latest F5G-A innovations, including fgOTN and campus solutions, highlighting trends such as “fibre-in, copper-out” and the shift to intelligent optical networks. He stressed the importance of optical sensing and connectivity in advancing industry intelligence.
Nimrod Smit, Senior Product Manager, demonstrated how Huawei’s all-optical solutions empower ISPs to offer gigabit-level experiences, vital for both B2B and B2H markets. Meanwhile, Ziki Wang, Senior Optical Solution Expert, showcased Huawei’s fibre-to-the-office (FTTO) solution, delivering up to 30% savings in energy and total cost of ownership, while ensuring 30-year scalability.
Success stories came from Switchcom Distribution CEO Alan Prior, who highlighted SME growth through Huawei’s MiniFTTO deployment, and Deltrolux MD Dwayne Kloppers, who shared insights on building one of Huawei’s first Smart Warehouses in South Africa.
In security innovation, Stan Fu, CCTV Solution Expert, introduced HOLOWITS, Huawei’s AI-driven surveillance system offering real-time threat detection. Comfort Nthabiseng Mathobela later presented optical fibre sensing, a game-changing solution for critical infrastructure, enhancing perimeter protection with AI and real-time alerts.
The event concluded with live demos and a networking session, leaving attendees inspired by Huawei’s strategic vision.
