ATTA® and IGLTA Partner to Promote Inclusive Tourism in Africa

The African Travel & Tourism Association (ATTA®) has announced a landmark two-year organizational partnership with the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA), marking a significant step forward in promoting inclusive and diverse tourism across the African continent.

Under the agreement, ATTA® becomes an official member of IGLTA, gaining access to global marketing and advertising opportunities aimed at reaching LGBTQ+ travellers worldwide. In return, IGLTA will benefit from ATTA® membership and enhanced visibility through ATTA®’s expansive platform that connects over 900 tourism-related businesses across Africa and the Indian Ocean islands.

Welcoming the partnership, ATTA® CEO Kgomotso Ramothea (she/her) said:

“We are thrilled to establish this formal collaboration with IGLTA, which marks an important step in making African destinations more visible and accessible to LGBTQ+ travellers worldwide. This partnership reflects our commitment to inclusive tourism that celebrates diversity across our continent – and creates meaningful connections between international visitors and African communities.”

IGLTA President/CEO John Tanzella (he/him) echoed the enthusiasm, highlighting the significance of this collaboration in IGLTA’s broader global strategy.

“We look forward to collaborating with ATTA® to support safe and inclusive tourism and strengthening connections among our members. Since our historic first IGLTA Global Convention in Africa, held in Cape Town in 2016, we have increased our commitment to raising awareness for LGBTQ+ travel across the continent, and this is another important step on that journey.”

The implementation of the partnership will be driven by both Ramothea and Martina Barth (she/her), IGLTA Membership Manager – Africa, who also serves as Group Sales Manager for The Liz McGrath Collection.

The partnership arrives at a time when LGBTQ+ travel is gaining momentum globally, and Africa is increasingly being viewed as a destination offering authentic, diverse, and inclusive experiences. By joining forces, ATTA® and IGLTA aim to support tourism businesses across the continent in becoming more welcoming and inclusive to LGBTQ+ travellers.
