St. Ignatius Students Celebrate Smart Village, Prep for Japan Trip

Learners from St. Ignatius College paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Technology and Science to express appreciation for the Smart Village Project, which has significantly transformed rural education in Zambia.

The visit underscored the project’s success in bridging the digital education gap between urban and rural areas, with learners sharing how digital tools have enhanced their academic experiences—particularly in Science and Technology.

The Smart Village Initiative, spearheaded by President Hakainde Hichilema, has equipped rural schools with smart boards, interactive learning tools, and improved internet connectivity, enabling learners to access the same quality of education as their urban counterparts.

“Learning has become more engaging and effective,” said the Principal of St. Ignatius College, highlighting how the program has elevated students’ academic performance and confidence. The school is currently collaborating with Muchila and Kalomo schools, fostering a network of innovation, knowledge-sharing, and technological growth.

The visit also served as a preparatory event for the upcoming educational trip to Japan, where 23 learners from the St. Ignatius ICT Club will be exposed to cutting-edge technology and academic excellence. The trip aims to inspire the students and encourage them to replicate the innovations they experience in Japan back home in Zambia.

Hon. Felix C. Mutati, Minister of Technology and Science, encouraged the learners to represent Zambia with pride and integrity, stating, “Technology eliminates geographical barriers. What should matter is exposure—whether in Muchila or Tokyo.”
