Zambia, Burundi Deepen Military Ties Through Defence College Benchmarking Visit
Zambia and Burundi have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening military cooperation, with a focus on enhancing training and strategic collaboration between their respective defence institutions.
This was highlighted during a courtesy call by a delegation from Burundi’s Senior Command and Staff College, led by Commandant Brigadier General Nestor Nibayubahe, on Zambia’s Deputy Army Commander and Chief of Staff, Major General Luswepo Sinyinza, at Army Headquarters in Lusaka.
Maj Gen Sinyinza urged the visiting officers to make full use of the benchmarking mission, which includes engagements with Zambia’s Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), also known as “The Kamwala.”
“In the quest to enhance military cooperation, use this visit to exchange ideas with your counterparts on how best to run defence schools that are crucial in training senior officers,” he said.
Brig Gen Nibayubahe emphasized the significance of the visit, noting that it stems from the mutual respect shared between the two defence forces in upholding regional peace and security.
“As an institution of higher learning in military studies, we seek to strengthen regional cooperation for sustainable development and peace,” he added.
Burundi’s Ambassador to Zambia, Honourable Everlyne Butoyi, also attended the meeting and praised the enduring and strong bilateral ties between the two nations.
