Zambia Army Embarks on Modernization Drive

The Zambia Army has initiated a modernization strategy aimed at enhancing its operational capabilities, following directives from the Republican President and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Force, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema.

Deputy Army Commander and Chief of Staff, Major General Luswepo Sinyinza, made this announcement during a courtesy call on Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Her Excellency Mrs. Rose Sakala.

He revealed that as part of its modernization efforts, the Army is benchmarking against Ethiopia’s Defence Forces, renowned as one of the most technologically advanced military institutions in Africa.

Major General Sinyinza emphasized that Ethiopia has successfully developed technology to upgrade obsolete military equipment into modern and technologically advanced hardware. Inspired by this approach, the Zambia Army seeks to adopt similar strategies to revamp its outdated equipment and bolster national defense.

“Modernization and innovation are critical in ensuring a well-equipped defense force. The Zambia Army remains committed to embracing technological advancements to enhance its operational effectiveness,” Major General Sinyinza stated.

Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, H.E. Mrs. Rose Sakala, commended the Army for its efforts in maintaining peace and security, not only within Zambia but also across the continent.

She emphasized the Army’s contributions to peacekeeping missions, aligning with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 vision of a conflict-free Africa.

Furthermore, the Ambassador praised the Army’s rapid response in assisting communities affected by recent droughts and floods across Zambia, demonstrating its role beyond defense operations.
