Proflight Zambia Champions Women in Aviation at Global Conference
Proflight Zambia is taking bold strides in promoting gender inclusivity in aviation as it prepares to participate in the 36th Annual Women in Aviation Conference from March 27-29, 2025, in Denver, Colorado. Representing the airline at the prestigious event will be Sylvia Chanda and Piyanna Chani from Proflight’s Operations Control Centre.
The Women in Aviation International (WAI) conference is dedicated to encouraging, empowering, and educating individuals in aviation and aerospace. This year’s event aligns with Proflight Zambia’s mission to challenge traditional gender norms in the industry by championing women in various aviation roles beyond the conventional cabin crew and administrative positions.
Historically, aviation has been a male-dominated field, but Proflight Zambia is determined to rewrite the narrative. The airline boasts a workforce where 38% of its 280 employees are women, including three female pilots and twelve engineers. Additionally, 96% of the airline’s staff are Zambian nationals, further reinforcing its commitment to local talent development.
“Women are represented at every level of our organisation, from upper management to flight crew and engineers,” said Captain Josias Walubita, Proflight Zambia’s Director of Flight Operations.
Proflight’s dedication to gender inclusivity was recently showcased in an all-female crew-operated CRJ200 flight to Cape Town, a milestone that highlighted both operational excellence and the company’s commitment to diversity.
The airline’s efforts extend beyond employment statistics. Proflight actively partners with organisations that champion female participation in aviation, providing mentorship and educational opportunities for young women aspiring to enter the field.
“We are witnessing a positive shift, with more women stepping into aviation engineering and pilot roles,” added Capt. Walubita. “This signals a transformative change in the industry, paving the way for the next generation of female aviation professionals.”
Beyond technical roles, Proflight’s Ground Operations and Commercial Departments are predominantly staffed by women, and 30% of the company’s executive leadership comprises Women in Aviation.
As Proflight Zambia continues its upward trajectory, its commitment to fostering an inclusive and merit-based aviation sector remains steadfast. With long-term goals focused on achieving gender balance in the workforce, the airline is not only driving its own success but also setting a precedent for the broader aviation industry in Zambia and beyond.
