Lusaka Mayor Attends Pass-Out Parade for Newly Trained Council Police Officers
Lusaka Mayor, Chilando Chitangala, attended the pass-out parade of 36 council police officers who successfully completed an intensive one-month paramilitary training at Sondela Military Institute.
The ceremony, officiated by Hon. Gary Nkombo, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, celebrated the officers’ completion of their training and highlighted the crucial role they play in enforcing by-laws and maintaining public order in key public spaces such as markets and bus stations.
Hon. Nkombo praised the officers for their commitment to their duties and emphasized the importance of professionalism, ethical conduct, and dialogue-based conflict resolution to build trust between the council and the public.
He urged the officers to understand the challenges faced by the communities they serve, stressing that addressing these concerns is key to fostering a strong relationship between local authorities and residents.
The Minister also stressed the need for continuous training to ensure that officers are well-equipped to respond effectively to emerging threats and changing demands. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting local law enforcement, ensuring council police officers remain well-trained and efficient.
Hon. Ackson Sejani, Chairperson of the Local Government Service Commission, reiterated the commission’s dedication to fostering a disciplined and professional workforce built on hard work and patriotism.
Mayor Chitangala echoed these sentiments, recognizing the significance of a well-trained and professional council police force in maintaining law and order while fostering public confidence. He expressed optimism for continued collaboration to enhance service delivery and security in Lusaka.
The event was attended by senior government officials, including the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary for Administration, Dr. Gabriel Pollen, Lusaka Town Clerk, Eng. Liftry Ndaba, and senior security personnel.
