Zambia and Turkey Strengthen Bilateral Ties to Advance Human Development
The governments of Zambia and Turkey have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations to address socio-economic challenges and enhance human development.
This was highlighted when Turkish Ambassador to Zambia, Mr. Huseyin Barbaros Dicle, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Ms. Doreen Mwamba, to discuss key areas of cooperation.
Ms. Mwamba commended Turkey’s exemplary social protection initiatives, particularly in empowering women through skills training in crafts, art, fashion, and design.
She emphasized the need for Zambia to adopt similar programs to boost domestic investment and socio-economic growth.
“The Zambian government, through the Ministry, has made notable progress in child development and women empowerment. Initiatives such as the Food Security Pack (FSP) and the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) continue to provide critical support to vulnerable communities,” Ms. Mwamba stated.
In response, Ambassador Dicle praised Zambia’s efforts in social protection under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership.
He acknowledged the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of its citizens, particularly in times of crisis, and expressed Turkey’s readiness to collaborate on various socio-economic development initiatives.
“Zambia’s progress in social protection reflects a strong commitment to inclusive development. Turkey stands ready to support Zambia in fostering sustainable economic growth and social well-being,” Ambassador Dicle affirmed.
