Youth Day 2025: Minister Muchima Urges Youth to Drive Innovation and Accountability
The 2025 Youth Day Commemoration in Solwezi District, North Western Province, was marked by a powerful keynote address from the Minister of Health, Dr. Elijah Muchima (MP), who called on young people to take charge of Zambia’s future through innovation, accountability, and active participation in national development.
Held under the theme, “Voices Amplified and Innovations Ignited,” the event underscored the vital role of young people in shaping the country’s progress. Dr. Muchima reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to youth empowerment under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, emphasizing that young people are not just the future but also the present drivers of change.
He urged them to harness their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit to contribute to Zambia’s growth.
Addressing the growing concern of alcohol and substance abuse, Dr. Muchima highlighted ongoing Government initiatives that have reached nearly 4 million citizens through awareness programs in collaboration with traditional leaders, churches, and civil society organizations.
He encouraged the youth to take advantage of Government-led empowerment programs such as vocational training, mentorship schemes, and entrepreneurship incubators, designed to equip them with skills for sustainable livelihoods.
Dr. Muchima also stressed the importance of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in tackling local challenges and improving community welfare. He urged young people to hold their leaders accountable and actively engage in governance to ensure promises are fulfilled.
Innovation remained a key focus of his address, with the Minister calling for collaboration and creative solutions to drive progress in various sectors. He commended the youth for their resilience and potential, urging all stakeholders to support their aspirations and ensure their voices are heard.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Muchima expressed optimism about Zambia’s future, acknowledging the crucial contributions young people continue to make in national development.
