Ministry of Technology and Science Launches ICT Class at SAIAST to Boost Aviation Innovation

The Ministry of Technology and Science has taken a bold step toward advancing digital education in aviation with the launch of an ICT class at the Southern Africa Institute of Aviation Science & Technology (SAIAST). 

Representing Honorable Minister Felix C. Mutati, MP, at the event was Director of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Larry Mweetwa, who underscored the significance of technology in shaping the future of aviation.  

Dr. Mweetwa highlighted that ICT is at the heart of every modern industry, including aviation, where artificial intelligence, data analytics, automation, and cybersecurity are transforming operations. 

He emphasized the need to equip young professionals with digital skills to enhance air traffic management, safety, and operational efficiency, ensuring Zambia remains competitive in the global aviation sector.  

Commending SAIAST’s visionary approach, Dr. Mweetwa praised the institution for integrating digital education into aviation training. He noted that this initiative aligns with the Ministry’s mission to promote digital literacy, research, and innovation as essential pillars of national development.  

A major highlight of the event was SAIAST’s Vicinity Simulating Spaces division, where a talented team has successfully developed an Air Traffic Control (ATC) Simulator. Dr. Mweetwa hailed this achievement as a testament to homegrown innovation and technical expertise, showcasing Zambia’s potential in creating cutting-edge solutions for the aviation sector.  

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting institutions like SAIAST by fostering policies that drive technological development and industry collaborations. Dr. Mweetwa stressed that empowering young people with ICT skills will not only transform the aviation industry but also unlock limitless opportunities for national progress.  

With science, technology, and innovation as key drivers of sustainable growth, stakeholders at the event emphasized the importance of collective efforts in building a future where Zambia stands at the forefront of global aviation advancements.
