SADC Ministers to Convene in Zimbabwe for High-Level Talks on Transport, ICT, and Meteorology
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Cluster Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Transport, ICT, Information, and Meteorology is set to take place on 28th February 2025 in Harare, Zimbabwe. The meeting will assess progress on key regional infrastructure projects and policy frameworks aimed at enhancing regional integration.
Presided over by Hon. Dr. Tatenda Anastacia Mavetera, Zimbabwe’s Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, the meeting will bring together ministers from SADC Member States to evaluate the implementation of decisions made in the previous sectorial meeting (June 2023) and the SADC Summit of Heads of State.
Key discussions will include:
-Digital Connectivity & Cybersecurity: Reviewing progress on broadband expansion, the SADC Shared Satellite System, and the Harmonised Cybersecurity Framework.
-Disaster Resilience & Early Warning Systems: Assessing the Regional Meteorology Strategy, with a focus on strengthening climate services and disaster management in line with World Meteorological Organization (WMO) goals.
-Transport & Trade Facilitation: Addressing strategies to improve cross-border trade along the North-South Corridor, which connects key economic hubs to seaports.
The SADC Deputy Executive Secretary for Regional Integration, Ms. Angèle Makombo N’tumba, will represent SADC Executive Secretary Mr. Elias M. Magosi at the meeting.
Preceding the ministerial meeting, senior officials will convene from 24th to 26th February 2025, followed by the SADC High-Level Ministerial Round Table on Infrastructure on 27th February 2025, focusing on unlocking the North-South Corridor’s economic potential.
With regional integration at the heart of the discussions, the SADC Cluster Meeting aims to accelerate economic growth, improve service delivery, and strengthen climate resilience across Southern Africa.
