President Hichilema Strengthens Zambia-Japan Relations in High-Level Talks

President Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed Zambia’s long-standing diplomatic ties with Japan following a high-level meeting with Prime Minister H.E. Shigeru Ishiba in Tokyo.

The meeting, held as part of President Hichilema’s working visit to Japan, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, with both leaders reaffirming two key agreements signed earlier in the day: a Policy Dialogue Mechanism to facilitate regular political consultations and a Bilateral Investment Agreement to promote and protect investments between the two nations.

“On behalf of the Zambian people, we thanked Prime Minister Shigeru for Japan’s continued support in sectors such as mining, agriculture, and infrastructure development,” President Hichilema stated.

The two leaders agreed to enhance diplomatic engagement and policy dialogue to deepen economic and political cooperation. President Hichilema also expressed gratitude to the Japanese government and people for their warm hospitality during the visit.

Zambia and Japan have shared diplomatic ties since 1964, and today’s agreements mark a new chapter in fostering mutual economic growth and strategic partnerships.
