SADC Hosts SARCOF-30 in Madagascar to Address Climate Resilience
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is hosting the 30th Southern Africa Climate Outlook Forum (SARCOF-30) in Antananarivo, Madagascar, from January 28 to 30, 2025.
Organized under the ClimSA Programme and supported by the European Union, the forum aims to bolster regional climate resilience through collaborative strategies and actionable climate forecasts.
This year’s theme, “Closing the Early Warning Gap Together in SADC Region,” emphasizes the urgency of strengthening early warning systems amidst escalating climate risks like droughts, floods, and cyclones.
SARCOF-30 aligns with the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020–2030, focusing on integrating climate information into socio-economic sectors such as agriculture, water, and energy.
Preceded by the Climate Experts Meeting (January 21–27, 2025), the forum will issue the Seasonal Climate Outlook for February to June 2025, enabling governments, policymakers, and humanitarian agencies to develop early warning advisories for the region.
SARCOF-30 emphasizes innovation and collaboration in addressing climate risks, reaffirming SADC’s commitment to a climate-resilient Southern Africa.
