ZAMMSA Reports 68.4% National Availability of Medicines and Medical Supplies

The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has announced a national availability rate of 68.4% for medicines and medical supplies as the agency embarks on its first distribution cycle of the year.  

This availability level ensures a steady supply of essential medicines to 3,500 public health facilities across Zambia, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services to all citizens.  

ZAMMSA has reported impressive availability rates for key commodities, with antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) at 88%, anti-malarial drugs at 100%, and anti-TB drugs at 100%. 

These figures highlight the effectiveness of the agency’s supply chain management efforts and collaboration with stakeholders in the healthcare sector.  

The agency further noted that public healthcare facilities are currently experiencing an average availability rate of 80%, a significant milestone that reflects the strength and resilience of Zambia’s medical supply chain.  

Speaking on the development, ZAMMSA’s Senior Manager – Corporate Communications, Bradley Chingobe emphasized the agency’s dedication to ensuring a stable and sustainable supply of medical commodities, with the current national availability rate nearing the 70% benchmark recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).

He has assured the public of ZAMMSA’s continued efforts to enhance supply chain systems, aiming for even greater efficiency and accessibility of life-saving medicines for all Zambians.
