ZimParks Takes Action Against Rangers for Illegal Game Meat Sale
The Zimbabwe Parks & Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has announced the suspension of two rangers following a serious violation of wildlife protection laws. The rangers have been implicated in the illegal sale of over 70 kilograms of impala meat to local restaurants, contravening Section 59 (2)(b) of the Parks and Wildlife Act.
The decision comes after a thorough investigation by ZimParks, which aims to maintain the integrity of wildlife conservation efforts in Zimbabwe. The authority confirmed that the rangers’ actions not only undermine wildlife protection laws but also threaten the country’s rich natural heritage.
In a statement released today, ZimParks emphasized its commitment to protecting Zimbabwe’s wildlife and assured the public that no individual is above the law. The organization reiterated that it will take swift action against any personnel found violating conservation policies.
“The illegal sale of game meat is a serious offense that jeopardizes our wildlife and conservation goals,” said Tinashe Farawo, ZimParks Spokesperson. “We are determined to hold accountable those who betray the trust placed in them.”
ZimParks has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to wildlife protection. The authority is committed to transparency and accountability in its operations, reinforcing the message that conservation efforts are a shared responsibility.
The ongoing investigation highlights the critical role of enforcement in preserving Zimbabwe’s unique ecosystems. As the country continues to attract attention for its wildlife tourism, maintaining ethical standards among those tasked with protecting these resources is paramount.
