Teachers Hold the Key to Success of New Curriculum – Hon. Syakalima
Zambia’s Education Minister Hon. Douglas Syakalima has called on teachers to embrace the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC), stating that its success hinges on their dedication and adaptability.
Speaking at the official opening of the CBC Teacher Training workshop at the National Science Centre in Lusaka, Hon. Syakalima emphasized the critical role of educators in shaping the future of Zambia’s education.
“We anticipate that teachers will leave this training equipped not only with technical expertise but also with the inspiration and determination to drive change in their schools and communities. The success of this curriculum, and ultimately the future of our learners, rests in your capable hands,” he said.
The Minister also appealed to stakeholders to collaborate with the government to deliver a transformative education system that supports Zambia’s developmental goals.
The training targets Early Childhood Education (ECE), Grade 1, and Form 1 teachers in Lusaka, preparing them to implement the CBC when term one begins on February 10, 2025. The CBC rollout will follow a phased approach, covering the years 2025 to 2028.
“This phased implementation reaffirms our commitment to nurturing a generation of learners equipped for the 21st century,” Hon. Syakalima added, lauding teachers as society’s indispensable building blocks.
The training aligns with President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision of reforming Zambia’s education system to meet national developmental aspirations.
Kabulonga Boys Secondary School Head of Mathematics, Mr. Darius Mangwatu, expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting the importance of teacher orientation in effectively translating the curriculum to learners.
