Nora Hauptle Appointed as New Copper Queens Coach
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has announced the appointment of Swiss national Nora Hauptle as the new head coach of the Copper Queens on a three-year contract.
FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga expressed confidence in Hauptle’s ability to elevate Zambia’s women’s football.
“Her duty is to consolidate the gains made in the last few years, which include winning bronze at the WAFCON, qualifying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023, and back-to-back Olympic qualifications,” Kamanga said.
Hauptle, a former Swiss international defender with a distinguished playing career, has vast coaching experience.
She managed SC Sand in the German Frauen-Bundesliga in 2020 and coached Ghana’s Black Queens in 2022.
FAZ also acknowledged the contributions of outgoing coach Bruce Mwape, who will transition to a developmental role. Mwape has been instrumental in the Copper Queens’ successes, including their maiden World Cup and Olympic qualifications.
He will undertake a CAF Pro License course, making him the second Zambian to do so after Wedson Nyirenda.
The Copper Queens are set to participate in the 2024 WAFCON, scheduled for July 2025 in Morocco.
