Construction of 120 Secondary Schools to Be Completed in 2025 – Syakalima

The Ministry of Education is advancing its commitment to education reform with the construction of 317 secondary schools across Zambia.

This initiative includes 115 schools funded by the Zambian government and 202 schools supported by the World Bank under the Zambia Education Enhancement Project (ZEEP).

Education Minister Douglas Syakalima announced that construction of 120 World Bank-funded schools in all 10 provinces is underway and set for completion by December 2025.

Additionally, 82 schools under ZEEP are operational, with minor works such as water and electrical installations pending.

For the government-funded schools, 69 have been completed, and the remaining 46 are expected to be finished this year. “Eighteen contracts have been signed and awarded, while eleven await clearance from the Ministry of Justice,” Hon. Syakalima revealed.

The initiative complements the government’s free education policy, which has brought over two million children back to school. To address the teacher-pupil ratio, over 40,000 teachers have been employed in the last three years.

“These measures are designed to ensure adequate school infrastructure as we continue strengthening our education system,” the Minister affirmed.
