ACG to Showcase Unified Climate Action at COP16 in Riyadh
The Arab Coordination Group (ACG), a strategic alliance of ten national and regional development institutions, is set to actively participate in the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Riyadh.
The ACG Pavilion, located in Al-ULA B, No. B14, will be a focal point for the Group’s impact, with individual members showcasing innovative solutions and partnerships to tackle land degradation, desertification, and drought while promoting sustainable land management.
The Group’s joint presence at COP16 highlights ACG’s commitment to both financial investments and cutting-edge solutions for combating desertification and supporting climate-impacted communities.
By backing transformative initiatives such as the Saudi and Middle East Green Initiatives, and the G20 Global Land Initiative, the Group aims to demonstrate how regional efforts can drive global change in land restoration, biodiversity conservation, and climate adaptation.
ACG’s contribution to COP16 will include high-level sessions such as the opening ceremony and a ministerial plenary, where the Group is expected to announce a major pledge to enhance global land restoration and resilience efforts. The pavilion will also host more than 10 side events organized by ACG institutions to engage stakeholders globally.
In previous COP events, ACG announced a US$24 billion commitment at COP27 and allocated up to US$50 billion to build resilient infrastructure in Africa. At COP28, ACG outlined US$10 billion in financing to accelerate the global transition to clean and renewable energy.
With a proven track record, the Arab Coordination Group has provided over 12,000 development loans to 160+ countries since 1975, further solidifying its position as the world’s second-largest development finance alliance. The Group’s collective efforts continue to shape sustainable solutions for global challenges.
