DEC Intercepts Trans-National Drug Trafficker in Kazungula District
The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has apprehended a 34-year-old truck driver, Samwaka Mwananyambe, of Kafue District, for alleged involvement in drug trafficking and illegal importation of medicines.
The arrest followed intelligence reports that a truck bearing South African registration number BX 94 LG GP was transporting illegal substances into Zambia via the Kazungula One-Stop Border Post.
Acting on this tip-off, a joint operation involving the DEC, Zambia Police Service, and Zambia Revenue Authority intercepted and thoroughly searched the vehicle.
The search unveiled 31 bundles of high-grade cannabis weighing 580 kilograms and 35 boxes containing 1,680 bottles of Benylin with Codeine, a controlled substance, concealed in a truck compartment. All contraband, along with the truck, has been seized.
The suspect is currently in lawful custody as investigations continue. DEC Public Relations Officer Allan Tamba reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to eradicating crime and creating safer communities.
“We appreciate the unwavering support of the Zambia Police Service and the Zambia Revenue Authority,” he said, urging the public to report any suspicious activities.
