Zambia and Estonia Commit to Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Zambia and Estonia have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations following the presentation of credentials by Zambia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Estonia, Her Excellency Ms. Gladys Neven Lundwe, to His Excellency Mr. Alar Karis, President of Estonia, on 11th December 2024.
During the ceremony at the Presidential Office in Tallinn, Ambassador Lundwe conveyed warm greetings from Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, which President Karis warmly reciprocated. Discussions during the event focused on fostering diplomatic collaboration, economic partnerships, and education initiatives.
Ambassador Lundwe highlighted Zambia’s ongoing challenges, including the severe drought of the 2023-2024 farming season that led to an energy crisis due to the nation’s reliance on hydropower. She invited Estonian businesses to invest in Zambia’s energy sector to support diversification efforts.
In education, Ambassador Lundwe emphasized Zambia’s interest in partnering with Estonia to create opportunities for Zambian students in advanced digital and technical fields.
She underscored the Zambian government’s belief in education as a cornerstone for national development.
Earlier, Ambassador Lundwe held meetings with senior Estonian officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss areas of mutual interest, including technology, trade, and cultural exchanges.
This renewed diplomatic engagement marks a significant step in deepening cooperation between Zambia and Estonia in critical areas such as energy, education, and peaceful conflict resolution.
