Zambia and El Salvador Establish Diplomatic Ties at UN Headquarters
The Republic of Zambia and the Republic of El Salvador have formally established diplomatic relations, signaling a new era of cooperation and mutual advancement.
The landmark agreement was signed on December 10, 2024, at the United Nations headquarters by Zambia’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Dr. Chola Milambo, and El Salvador’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Mrs. Egriselda Aracely González López.
Ambassador López highlighted the agreement as a pivotal step, aligned with President Nayib Bukele’s vision to broaden El Salvador’s partnerships across Africa. She pointed to potential collaborations in digital innovation, noting Zambia’s leadership in the UN’s Global Digital Compact.
Ambassador Milambo praised the initiative, emphasizing shared commitments to economic diplomacy, peace, security, and environmental sustainability. He also lauded El Salvador’s contributions to revitalizing the UN General Assembly, underscoring the power of solidarity among small states.
The partnership promises bilateral and multilateral collaboration in areas ranging from political dialogue to technological and environmental initiatives. Both nations expressed optimism about unlocking opportunities for mutual benefit and advancing their global influence.
This agreement follows Zambia’s recent diplomatic engagements with the Dominican Republic, Panama, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, reflecting the nation’s growing focus on fostering international partnerships.
