Zambia Joins OECD Development Centre as 56th Member
Zambia has officially become the 56th member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Development Centre, marking a historic milestone for the nation.
The formal admission was celebrated during a Welcoming Ceremony at the 9th High-Level Meeting of the Centre’s Governing Board in Paris.
Led by the Honourable Minister of Tourism, Mr. Rodney Sikumba, MP, Zambia’s delegation included officials from the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, as well as Zambia’s Ambassador to France, H.E. Ms. Judith Mulenga.
This membership positions Zambia as the 12th African nation in the Centre, which supports developing and emerging economies in fostering sustainable growth, reducing inequalities, and improving livelihoods.
Speaking at the event, Honourable Sikumba expressed Zambia’s commitment to leveraging the OECD Development Centre’s expertise in areas such as industrialization, inequality reduction, and green development.
He emphasized the importance of partnerships and reforms to drive Zambia’s economic progress and green transition.
The ceremony was graced by global leaders, including the President of Paraguay, H.E. Santiago Peña Palacios, Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Amor Mottley, and OECD Secretary-General Mathias Corman.
