SADC Chairperson and Botswana President to Visit SADC Secretariat in Gaborone
His Excellency Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), alongside President Duma Gideon Boko of the Republic of Botswana, will undertake a working visit to the SADC Secretariat Headquarters in Gaborone on December 13, 2024.
The visit, a customary engagement for SADC Chairpersons, follows President Mnangagwa’s appointment as SADC Chairperson during the 44th SADC Summit in Harare on August 17, 2024.
The visit aims to assess the progress of SADC programs, particularly those related to the theme of the 44th Summit: “Promoting Innovation to Unlock Opportunities for Sustainable Economic Growth and Development towards an Industrialised SADC.”
The leaders will also mark a significant milestone with the receipt of the SADC Headquarters building from Bongwe Investments Proprietary Limited. This public-private partnership (PPP) agreement involves SADC, Bongwe Investments, and the Government of Botswana, and underscores the region’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure development.
Additionally, President Mnangagwa and President Boko will perform the groundbreaking ceremony for the SADC Standby Force Regional Logistics Depot in Rasesa village, Kgatleng District. The depot, set to support SADC peacekeeping and humanitarian missions, will play a crucial role in enhancing regional security and readiness.
As the Chairperson of SADC, President Mnangagwa holds the highest governance position within the community, providing strategic policy direction and oversight of SADC’s regional integration agenda.
