FQM Trident, a subsidiary of First Quantum Minerals (FQM), emerged as a standout performer at the 2024 Zambia Chamber of Mines (ZCM) Awards Gala, claiming four prestigious awards.

The mining firm won Mining Company of the Year, Best Performer in Social Investment, Local Content, and Best Mining Employer, solidifying its reputation as a leader in Zambia’s mining sector.

He added, “We share this success, knowing that our daily efforts are making a difference for our host community and the future of FQM.”

The event was graced by Southern Province Minister Credo Nanjuwa, who reaffirmed the government’s dedication to fostering a stable and predictable mining environment.

Speaking at the 8th National Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment—Vision Zero Conference, Nanjuwa said, “The government is committed to ensuring that the mining industry meets a target of 3 million metric tons for copper in the coming years. We are creating an optimal investment climate to ensure sustainability and maximum shared benefits.”

Nanjuwa also emphasized the importance of local content initiatives. “I urge mining companies to support Zambian entrepreneurs by providing opportunities in the supply chain. Initiatives such as business accelerator programs and upskilling local contractors are commendable.”

The gala celebrated excellence in the mining sector by honoring key players for their remarkable contributions. Sibongile Kanyangu of Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) was awarded the prestigious title of 2024 Mining Woman of the Year, while Patrick Akayombokwa from Mopani Copper Mines received the Mining Personality of the Year accolade.

Lubambe Copper Mine was recognized for its commitment to sustainability with the Best Performer in Environmental Management award, and KCM also earned the Best Performer in Occupational Health and Safety accolade.
